Hi Guys, welcome back to my page. I’m here to give you a gist of “Itaewon Class”, a kdrama which got aired in S.Korea in 2020 and is also available on Netflix. After which you can decide whether you want to watch or not, or is it the genre you’re looking for. :P

  • Air date- 31st January-21st March 2020
  • Episodes- 16
  • Starring- Park Seo-Joon as Park Seo-ro-yi; Kim Da-mi as Jo Yi-seo; Kwon Nara as Oh Soo-ah
  • Genre- Drama; Revenge; Romance; Corporate
  • Available on- Netflix ; kissassian.com

PLOT:

It is a story which shows the outcome when revenge and aspiration are merged together. It depicts the story of a school drop out young boy Park Seo-ro-yi’s(Park Seo Joon) revenge and aspiration. It all started when he tried to stop his classmate(Jang Geun-won played by Ahn Bo-hyun) who hails from an influential family, from bullying another boy in their class. After which things started to go haywire for Park Seo-ro-yi and his father. Seo-ro-yi’s father got killed in an accident by Geun-won and when Seo-ro-yi learns about this, the young boy seo-ro-yi took a hasty decision which ended him up in jail. And Geun-won’s father(owner of Janga Company) stopped Seo-ro-yi’s father’s accident investigation as well in order to save his son. What kept Seo-ro-yi going all through the tough days in jail was the word “revenge”, and this time he would take revenge rightfully so and not by taking any hasty decisions like before i.e by taking down the “Janga” company and making his own Company(Dambam, later named ‘IC’ Company). He’s supported by Ma Hyeon-yi, Kim To-ni & Choi Seung-gwon(cell mate) in his mission to build up “Itaewon Class Company(ICC)” and take down “Janga” Company.

This series focuses on not only the struggles of a middle class but also reflects on subject of Trans-community and the struggles of a convict who has been released after serving his sentence in jail in South Korea, which I personally feel are not issues restricted only in South Korea but also globally. The series also delineates the ugly truth of rich society and discrimination of rich & poor in South Korea. The series based on a webtoon/Manhwa with the same name created by Gwang Jin. Aired on JTBC network in S.Korea. It is a hit TV series which garnered the highest ratings, and has also managed to pull critics attention for its story-line and awareness. It is based on a real place “Itaewon” located in S.Korea and was shot in one of the real restaurants in the Itaewon lane within the country.

Its not a typical Kdrama that we usually get to see or imagine by the word Kdrama. Its more of a reality based story, and has shown only the facts combined with fiction. If you’re looking for a romance genre then I would strictly say No, but if you’re looking for a revenge drama unlikely not a mainstream type, I would strongly recommend this series. :)
